We know parenthood can leave you feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and unsure. Our aim is to support you to build the confidence you need to thrive as you navigate parenthood.
Fussy baby? Terrible twos? Challenging pre-teen? Conflictual adolescent? Disagreement between parents on how to discipline? We can help with that.
Our approach is unique. It's not quite counselling and it's not quite coaching - it's in between. We will work with you to identify your parenting challenges and goals, and build an achievable plan to improve your day to day experience of parenthood. We specialize in finding solutions with you, and supporting you along the way.
We bring years of experience and education in childhood development, coaching, counselling, family support, parent education, mediation and advocacy.
Our aim is to leave you with new strategies within our first visit together so you can move towards the growth and changes you want to make in yourself and your parenting.
Our work is to ask good questions, and provide observations based on what you share with us. We won't tell you what to do, but we will help you uncover insights and next steps, while sharing some tips and tricks that families find work well.
Request an initial consultation to get a sense of our approach and see if you'd like to work with us.
Sessions available via phone call or zoom, in person in your home, or in nature on a walk.
Sessions scheduled bi-weekly. Reserve your time for ongoing parent support.
Please reach us at journeyofbirth@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Yes, and no.
Like counselling, we are here to hear about what's hard for you, and we're great listeners. Like coaching, we will ask important questions to help you better understand where you are, and where you want to go.
Our parenting support is different than both counselling and coaching. We aim to help you uncover the root of the challenges you're having as a parent, and build solutions that you can start working towards right away. We take a multi-disciplinary approach which includes getting to know your parenting experience, understanding your strengths and interests as a parent as well as areas for growth, trouble-shooting the aspects you'd like to improve, and helping you build solution-orientated next steps. We also work with you to better understand your child's development stage, age-appropriate strategies, and we work to support you to foster a deeper attunement between you and your child. Unlike a counsellor or coach, we will share insights and feedback with you if you'd like that, but we won't tell you what to do - we'll help you find your own answers to that question.
Anyone who is parenting and wants to improve their ease in parenthood, their relationship with their child, hone in on the reasons they are facing challenges and what to do about that, or how to better coparent with their child's other parent. We work with parents of children any age, including adult children. We are interested in relationships, and helping you improve your enjoyment in your day to day relationships with your child(ren).
We hear about burnout, frustration, and a lack of certainty. We talk about behaviour issues, boundaries, and strategies for a calmer household and more easeful collaboration between parents and children. We talk about how to correct habits in parenting that aren't working for you, desired changes and how to achieve them, and skills to use as a parent to support yourself and your child(ren) to thrive. We help you determine what you want, and help you build a map to get there. We listen deeply, and lean in to your experience.
